Hi Wayne, 

Well the show is over, and I’d have to say, I was very impressed with the quality of your product and the way it stood up to the high pressure of my 16 Working Dairy demonstration cows, and the high expectations of those of us looking after them! 

The cows were on the bedding for a total of 14 days, with a top up in the middle. Typically with the sand based bedding we have used in the past, the bedding would get very spent and spare by the time the middle of the show came around, necessitating in full replacement. The bedding would start out nearly 12 inches over the top of the keeper railings and would end up about level with them or approximately 1-2 inches below by the time swap over or the end of the show came around. The bedding would often get quite wet, particularly in the under layers, and would also start to look quite dirty to the eye. 

I was impressed with Excelpro to say the least. Not only did its longevity outlast the previous bedding, it remained much dryer, cleaner and fresher to the eye. The cows always appeared comfortable, and the bedding did not appear to compress under their weight. Some of these girls are in the vicinity of 800 kg, which in the past has been a struggle to maintain the bedding comfort for, particularly when it starts getting soiled and low in volume. Never did we have an issue with the volume of bedding. We certainly did not have to discard anywhere near as much (the looseness of the faeces compared to a horse or beef cow, is a lot more so therefore we do waste more bedding than traditionally bedded animals), and therefore we only lost about an inch at the back of the beds before top up. 

One of the most important things for me however, is the health of the animals when being bedded for such a time. We had ZERO cases of mastitis. This is a massive achievement, with usually a few cases per year in the past. We also had no respiratory or ocular issues. I am confident that this bedding had a lot to do with the fact we had no cases of mastitis. We run a very strict hygiene protocol with the cows, which did not change this year, and therefore the only thing that changed was the bedding. 

I am very very keen to try this out in my horse stable in Centennial Park for my very grubby farm boy Quarter Horse gelding! He makes a fair mess and I find myself having to turf a lot of bedding every day. So far nothing has been able to stand up to his cowboy messiness.
